WINDSOR, ONTARIO — After just one year at Memphis State University, Christian Morneau returned home and delivered a summer to remember on the Unico Primo Jr. Golf Tour, finishing at the top of the leaderboard with a string of impresive performances.

Morneau competed in seven events, capturing four victories and finishing runner-up three times. Consistency earned Morneau the collegiate title with 118 points. Kevin Teichroeb, with his third win on the tour at Kingsville Thursday, finished second with 114 points.
“It’s been fun,” Morneau told Powerplay Sports. “It’s helped me a lot. Down [at Memphis State] it’s pretty much you focus on golf all the time and you're practicing every day. It’s helped me become sharp and polished. I feel like I don’t fade away and shoot very many high scores anymore.”
That polish was evident from the outset of the season. Morneau opened with back-to-back victories, carding a 68 at Seven Lakes and 69 at Willow Ridge. He then kept the momentum going with three straight second-place finishes, shooting 74 at Essex, 70 at Ambassador, and 73 at Sutton Creek. He closed out the tour with two more first-place finishes—68 at Rochester Place and 71 at Beach Grove.
His consistent scoring and mental focus were the hallmarks of a summer that highlighted a significant leap forward in his young career.
“I feel like my game overall has gotten so much better,” Morneau said. “I didn’t play golf growing up so I feel I’ve taken a big step this year and looking to take another big one next year.”
Morneau picked up golf during the pandemic after growing up playing baseball and hockey, sports that taught him competitiveness and discipline which he has channelled into his golf game.
He head down south having won the Unico Primo Tour and finishing second at the Western Ontario Golf Championships at Roseland earlier this month looking to build on the momentum.
“That’s kinda the goal, to get better every day and see where it takes you,” he said. “I’m not going to put a ceiling on myself.”
