L'Essor Blanks LCCVI in Windy SWOSSA Championship Win

It was a blustery battle in Tecumseh as L’Essor hosted the SWOSSA championship against the Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute (LCCVI) Lancers. The home side rose to the occasion despite strong winds making for difficult play.
"It was a tough start but once we got in I felt we had the game." Megan Malmberg told Powerplay Sports after the game.

Normally a striker, Malmberg was playing wing when she dribbled towards the LCCVI net, took a shot that hit a Lancer before she tapped in the opening goal.
The grade 12 vet scored again after the break before Jasmine Dado rounded out the scoring.
"I'm super excited. I've never been to OFSAA and that was a big goal of mine in grade 12 so I'm really happy we finally get to do it.

The visiting Lancers from Petrolia struggled to generate any offense against the wind and L'Essor's defence.
"I wanna say coaching. I wanna say team atmosphere. When one person gets beat there's two more people behind her helping her out. It's not really one on one. It's always the whole team against everyone." said Elizabeth Boccarossa.

L’Essor’s defense remained solid in front of goalkeeper Jolina Mouawad, who earned her ninth shutout in ten games this season. "I always stay prepared. My head stays in the game." said Mouawad whose teammates didn't allow the Lancers to fire a shot on net in the second half. "We really pushed hard. We have a really good team and good group."
The only goal conceded by L’Essor came in the WECSSAA quarter-final against Assumption, scored by Evelina Masotti.
"I knew we had a strong defensive corp but they really came together and played strong this season. I'm very pleased. Now I'm a little bit mad about that one goal." head coach Cathleen Mulvey said with a laugh.
With the 3-0 win, L’Essor claims the SWOSSA crown and advances to the OFSAA championship, kicking off June 5 in Kingston.
"This was physically tough. I think it was a good match to get us ready. I think they're all excited and driven and want to give their best representation there and you never know what'll happen once you get there." Mulvey said.
