Miecz helping Les Aigles soar

Juliana Miecz is a presence on the volleyball court for L'Essor and helped lead Les Aigles to a 2-1 win over Villanova Tuesday night. It's their second straight win over a traditionally strong Tier 1 school since moving up from Tier 2 this season. "I said before the Christmas break trust in each other. We won the St. Anne's game and they asked me if there's anything we needed to improve and I said trusting our teammates and that's we did today to get the win."

Miecz has helped L'Essor soar to new heights as Les Aigles boast a perfect 6-0 which has them in first place in WECSSAA's top tier.

"I knew I loved the sport by 14U. I wanted to keep going. See how good I can be. I still have a lot to learn but I'm really excited for the future."

Miecz is hoping that future includes playing NCAA Division-1 volleyball. "I'm trying. I'm in the recruiting process. Hopefully things turn out for me."

The grade 11 student was a standout during last year's loss in the AA final against North Star. Besides her strong play, her calm demeanor is stands out. "I've been working throughout the past year to just stay calm," said Miecz who also plays club ball with the South County Bandits. "Making mistakes is ok. Just learn from them. If you do anything but be calm it's just gonna make everything worse so I try to stay calm for myself and my teammates around me."

L'Essor moved up to Tier 1 this season and will face their AA rival Thursday in Amherstburg as Les Aigles and North Star Wolves (5-0) put their undefeated records on the line. The Wolves have yet to drop a set this season.

"I think we're all hungry to beat them," said Regan Lane. "We're all hungry to prove ourselves so I'm really excited for that game."

Game time is 4pm.
