Mitchell disappointed as Flyers lose

There was no hiding the disappointment in Dale Mitchell's face following Thursday night's 5-1 loss to St. Thomas. "The one thing that disappoints us as a staff, and group, is how we respond when games are tight like that."

Andrew Seminara put the Stars on the board first at 19:08 of the first period. The Flyers responded early in the second when Connor MacPherson scored his 25th of the season at 3:55 but it was downhill from there. St. Thomas went on to score four straight goals to ice the game. To cap the kind of night they were having the Flyers scored an own-goal late in the third that Connor Loerzel was credited for.

"There was no communication, no one stepping up and I think that's the one thing that disappointed a lot of us, especially being our last home game. We have a lot of respect for St. Thomas. They always play us hard. They beat us our home opener so how fitting they beat us at the end."

The Flyers are at St. Mary's Friday night before closing out the regular season at St. Thomas Sunday night. Leamington has a one point lead over London for the top spot in the Western Conference. The Nats host Sarnia Saturday and Strathroy Sunday.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
