PHJL Weekly Recap: Admirals take step back, Essex and Lakeshore Battle for Top Spot

October 13, 2025 — PHJL Weekly Wrap-Up

It was a week of shifting momentum in the Stobbs Division as the top contenders flexed their muscles while others searched for answers.

Admirals Offence Dried Up

The Amherstburg Admirals had a tough stretch, struggling to find offense in back-to-back losses. They were blanked 7-0 on Friday night in Lakeshore, then managed just one goal in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Wheatley Sharks on Saturday. With the pair of losses, Amherstburg falls to 7th place in the division with a 3-5 record.

Essex Stays Hot

The Essex 73’s extended their win streak to four games, posting a convincing 6-2 win over Blenheim on Tuesday before edging Mooretown 2-1. Now sitting at 7-2, Essex is tied for first place in the division with Lakeshore at 14 points apiece. The 73's continue to show their depth and defensive stability, allowing just 16 goals in 9 games.

Lakeshore Suffers First Loss, Bounces Back Strong

Lakeshore's perfect start came to an end on Thursday in Blenheim, where the Canadiens were shut out 3-0 by the Blades. Russell Vaughan was sensational in goal, making 39 saves for the shutout win. However, the Canadiens wasted no time rebounding. On Friday night, they dominated Amherstburg with a 7-0 victory, powered by two goals apiece from Owen Bentley and Nick Graniero. Boe Piroski turned aside 16 shots for his first shutout of the season and the eighth of his career. Lakeshore now sits at 7-1, tied with Essex atop the standings.
