Spicer nets two for Vipers in OT loss

Cooper McAslan scored 34 seconds into overtime to lead the visiting London Nationals to a 5-4 win over the LaSalle Vipers in the season opener for both teams.

"We were looking for two (points)," said Vipers head coach Anthony Iaquinta. "I guess the positive is we've only been together one day now with everybody."

Many players came down from Windsor Spitfires training camp including defenceman Grady Spicer who made his presence known with a pair of goals and an assist in his debut for LaSalle.

"We worked hard in spurts. I think you could see we were a little gassed at the end there. Credit to them. They played well. They played hard. We made a couple too many mistakes." Iaquinta told Powerplay Sports.

He felt the game looked a bit like a pick up game and looks forward to see his team improve. The Vipers have a week to work on things before hosting the Chatham Maroons next Wednesday at the Vollmer.
