St. Anne is hosting OFSAA in early June and used Thursday's game against Leamington District to audition players. "It was one of those days where we kinda assumed where kids were gonna be," said head coach Steve Burke. "There were one or two surprises that we were happy with. It just helps with the depth of the team."

The Saints beat Leamington 8-5 in Tecumseh for their first win of the season after two games. "I think we have a solid team," said Josh Awad who is one of two grade 12 players on the team. "Our bats are looking nice. Our infield is looking nice. Our outfield too. I like our team."

Awad has never been a captain of a team but Burke will lean on him and Tyler Ray to lead a younger Saints team. "They fit the mold," Burke said. "They've been on the team for a while so they've seen what leaders on our team have done so they'll do well."
