Windsor City FC gearing up for season closer to home

The Windsor City FC season is less than a month away and the team is excited to to be playing at Acumen Stadium on the campus of St. Clair College. "It's incredibly important and a great partnership." said team president Vancho Cirovski who feels moving to the college is a win-win.

"The team needs a professional environment to play in and deserve to be seen because they play an exciting brand of soccer. The college gets to showcase the best facility in Ontario."

Training camp has been underway for the past few weeks with local players like Gianni Ferri and Frankie Facchineri in the fold.

Ferri was part the team for a quick minute last year before being injured. The 22-year old brings a wealth of experience to the field. He was part of the Toronto FC Academy before heading to the NCAA to play for Michigan State on scholarship. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the team having attended youth camps for the Canadian National team.

Facchineri captained the Canadian U-17 team and signed a homegrown deal with the Vancouver Whitecaps before the 2020 MLS season. In 2021 he spent time in the CPL and USL in SanDiego. Last summer Facchineri gained some League 1 experience suiting up for the Tecumseh U-21 team. He also played for the Windsor Lancers last fall.

Both players are expected to play a big factor in the team's success this season. Cirovski also feels the move from Amherstburg to Windsor will help add a few more checks in the win column. "Absolutely. I also think that playing in Windsor helps attract talent as well. The atmosphere should be better. More excitement."

The Windsor City FC season kicks off April 16th against Unionville Milliken S.C. at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughn. Their home opener is April 30th vs St. Catharines Roma at 4pm.
