'Working really hard since January' Saints advance to SWOSSA

The St. Anne sr. boys soccer team has been building for the moment they can call themselves champions. "We working really hard since January to win this WECSSAA finals," said Bolade Fawehinmi who scored the second goal in a 2-0 Saints win over defending champion Holy Names. "To win it with the boys is really amazing. I'm happy I was able to help my team out with scoring a goal today and I'm just really happy for the boys."

Niko Floros opened the scoring in the second half on a perfectly executed corner kick he redirected into the net.

"It's thanks to the defence"

Nikolas Varjacic earned the clean sheet but heaped praise on the defence for holding down the fort and stunning the Knights on their home field. "For the last five, six games I've had maybe a total of four shots. They help me out a lot. It's a great feeling right now."

St. Anne is hosting the SWOSSA final Wednesday night at Holy Names starting at 7pm. "Our work ethic every week. We've been doing this since January. 5AM wake ups," Vargacic said. "Shout out Mr. Soares (head coach). Always keeps us motivated. Coach Michaud always there. Another great guy. Giving us a lot of quotes to keep us focused. They did a great job."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
