[LaSalle, Ont] – The 2025 Unico Primo Junior Golf Tour teed off in style at Seven Lakes Golf Club highlighted by Dayne Bensette who won the junior boys division shooting a career low-65. The Essex golfer closed out his round with an eagle-birdie finish to earn a two-shot victory over Noah Turner (Essex) who was just as sharp carding a 67. Gavin Cowper, Lucas DeLorenzi and Geordie Johnson each finished with a strong score of 70.

"I don't care where you're playing, 65 takes some mental toughness," St. Clair College head golf coach Kevin Corriveau told Powerplay Sports. He looked on with excitement as Bensette gets set to join the Saints this fall.

"Credit to his swing coach David Byrne. He's done a great job with him. He made three bogies in a row and he still shot 65. Really good. Fantastic golf. I'm really proud of him and happy he's joining my team. I'm really excited for him."

In the Junior Girls Division, the spotlight was shared by Hannah Butzer (Maple City) and Savana Smith (Ridgetown), who each fired impressive rounds of 78 to earn co-winner honours. Both displayed poise under pressure and consistency throughout the day. Ella Harris (Essex) followed closely with a steady 83 to claim third, while Haylee Crawley (Maple City) with an 88 and Chloe Jacques at 89 rounded out the top 5.

On the Collegiate Women’s side, Kennedy Fremlin (Essex/University of Windsor) led the way with a composed 73. Her round put her six shots clear of Lancers teammate Vanessa Ardovini (79) and nine ahead of Lauren Purves (82), setting an early standard in the division.

The Collegiate Men’s Division featured a thrilling duel, with Christian Morneau (Kingsville/University of Memphis) carding a clinical 68 to edge out defending overall champion Kevin Teichroeb (Kingsville), who finished with a solid 69. Nathan White (Kingsville/St. Clair Commit) stayed in the mix with a strong 70.

With the opening event in the books, the tour now shifts to Willow Ridge Golf Club Sunday for the second stop of the season with a shotgun start at 2:00 PM.
