Sophie Gatrall committed to Easter Michigan University earlier this month and the smile says it all, "I couldn't be happier!" said the Tecumseh Vista student.

Gatrall started her recruiting process last September with an eye on being a freshman in 2023.

She did some research and EMU caught her eye. "Initially I was drawn to Eastern Michigan University because it has an excellent nursing program, and I noticed a few Canadian swimmers on the team."

After making the trip to Ypsilanti and spending some time with the team and head coach Dave Perkins the 16-year old knew EMU was the perfect fit. "The renovated pool, brand new locker room, and new housing were just an added bonus."

She has been swimming for nine years and hopes to be a contributing member of the Eagles who finished 5th in the MAC this past season. "I want to contribute to the positive team culture, improve my times, refine technique, and get stronger."

Away from the pool Gatrall is planning to study nursing.

She credits her current swim club for putting her in a position to succeed. "The Windsor Aquatic Club has kept me motivated to work hard and develop mental toughness."

She also credits the sport for creating structure and routine in her life. "Juggling the heavy swimming schedule, with school, and recruiting, has been a challenge. I am grateful that swimming has taught me time management!"
