Ly wins Ontario Women's Am in front of home crowd

Windsor's Jasmine Ly enjoyed playing at home and won the Ontario Women's Amateur Championships in front of an excited gallery at Pointe West Golf Thursday afternoon. The Holy Names grad had a tournament high six birdies which helped offset three bogeys to finish 3-under-69.

It was the third time Ly shot under par during the four day tournament. The NIU Huskies golfer was 8-under the tournament and finished with a four-day total of 280.

Monet Chun of Richmond Hills' Summit Golf and Country Club shot an 8-under-64 to finish second with a total of 283. Today's score was a women's course record. The previous record was 70 which was tied or broken 21 times from a longer distance (an extra 400+yards).

Tilbury's Haley Katona tied for 8th (293) after shooting two-under. Chatham's Brooke MacKinnon tied for 20th.

"It was phenomenal" said Rick Schmidgall, director at Pointe West Golf Club. "Great to watch. These women are good and it was a pleasure to host them".
