The Windsor Oldtimers 60+ and 70+ men's hockey teams each won gold at the Michigan Senior Olympics Friday.
"It was very exciting." said Bob Booker, captain of the 60+ team. "It was a long event. Three days. Two games a day. For people our in our age group it takes an effort to get there."
Despite the optics of a 4-1 win over the Metro Detroit Senior Glass in the final, Booker says it was a close 2-1 game with a couple of empty netters. Rod Isbister led the team offensively scoring ten goals. Goaltender Bob White, who posted one shutout, allowed five goals in the six games to earn team MVP of the tournament honours.
The 70+ team beat the Detroit Sheehan Wheels 7-0. Bill Ruiter was named their team's tournament MVP.
"It was a fun and enjoyable experience. Very fortunate that I can participate in events like this." said Booker, who looks forward to the opportunity for both teams to defend their title next year.
